  1. All weight classes shall be in multiples of four hundred pounds with the exception of Free-For-All (FFA).

2. Top three teams move up and take places that are not legitimately filled by teams in that class.

3. Time of weighing to be left to the discretion of fair association. Scales shall be certified within one month prior to contest.

4. Each teamster shall draw for his position just before starting of each class.

5. All teamsters to compete in contest shall have their teams ready at the published time. All classes will close when position numbers are drawn.

6. What constitutes a hitch - One inch or more.

7. Breakdown - An actual separation, breaking or bending of equipment shall constitute a breakdown. Chains not properly secured are not considered a breakdown. In event teamster and/or owner wish credit for the distance boat moved before breakage, it will constitute a hitch.

8. Over the rail - If an ox's foot strikes dirt outside the rail, it constitutes a hitch with no credit for the distance pulled. Teams must remain within the rails while hitched to the boat.

9. Any team deliberately driven over the rail will be disqualified from the contest.

10. There shall be a limit of five minutes for three hitches and time will be taken out when boat is being reset.

11. Measuring - Starting point of boat shall be properly marked to indicate same starting point for all loads.

12. The boat shall be returned to the starting pin after each hitch.

13. The boat shall be returned to the starting pin to comply with the following when pulling five minutes or five hitches: a. In no case may a pull begin from a point 72 inches or more from the starting pin. b. An ox steps over the rail. c. Teamster requests boat to be set back. d. A pull is disqualified for any rule violation.

14. The boat shall be returned to the most recent pin (not necessarily the starting pin) following a breakdown. It shall be the duty of the judges, prior to the start of the program, to determine if Rules 10, 11, and 12 or Rule 13 and 14 will apply. Rule 12 only will apply on a plank pit.

15. Measuring of distance pulling shall be in a straight line to points of turn and to the nearest point at the drag when stopped. When pulling distance, boat must be turned at least halfway, in order to get the full measurement. If not turned halfway, the length of the boat shall be subtracted from the full measurement. Rope to rope measuring will not be allowed unless agreed upon by the teamsters.

16. Time limit on distance pulling will be no more than five minutes unless otherwise agreed upon by teamsters before pulling time.

17. In case of ties for prize-winning placing, the best previous hitch will determine the winner.

18. Changing teamsters - No teamster may be changed after pulling the first load in any case except in emergency. Then only when permitted by the judges, with the consent of a majority of the teamster in that class.

19. The use of drugs or stimulant is prohibited. The fair or person conducting the contest reserves the right to test any animal after pulling. The owner and teamster found to have used a drug or stimulant shall be barred from the Association. First offense barred for two years, second offense barred for life.

20. Any person found guilty of, or responsible for feeding, watering or otherwise tampering with cattle, beyond their jurisdiction, shall be barred from this Association .

21. All teamsters will use proper language and conduct in the ring. One warning issued by the judge, second offense results in disqualification. Should disqualification occur, no premium money will be paid.

22. Drinking - Any participant under the influence of liquor will be disqualified from the contest. The drinking of intoxicating beverages in and around the ring is prohibited.

23. Interference of hitching men - Person hitching shall have nothing in his hand while in the confine of the ring except the hitching chain and a watch.

24. Changing of classes - Classes shall be as publicized only.

25. The pit shall be raked during the contest and covered the day before the draw.

26. A teamster will be allowed to use a whip and lash or goad. If a goad stick is used, it will not exceed 4 feet in length and a 1/2" diameter washer must pass over the top 24" of the goad stick.

27. Six Foot and Distance - Teamster will be allowed to place team in front of boat with light use of driving tool; animals shall not be hit on nose or face at any time. (Light use of driving tool will be allowed while the boat is being turned-distance only.) First offense constitutes a warning by judge, and loss of hitch and measure (6 Foot Class); second offense constitutes disqualification. Should disqualification occur, no premium monies will be paid.

28. No ropes or halters will be allowed.

29. At no time after weight has been decreased may it be increased.

30. Authorized persons in the ring - Only pit personnel and the owner or his agents.

31. No ox shall draw more than once in one day except in the best interest of the fair to fill classes.

32. If a teamster refuses to hitch to a load when only two teams are left after the boat is loaded, teamster will be disqualified. Should disqualification occur, no premiums will be paid.

33. Any variation of these rules shall be in the spirit of aforesaid rules and at the discretion of the judges.

34. Any situations that may arise and are not covered by these rules, the decision will be left to the discretion of the judges.
